It seems as if Aventura are making a return. Group member Romeo Santos teased the iconic bachata band’s first music together in years after leading fans astray with a series of April Fools Jokes via Instagram.

“I said I was going to launch a single with Aventura yesterday at 9 p.m. Y’all didn’t pay attention… the joke and my apologies were because I did not meet the said date and time. The jokes  are over”, states the video, which shows a preview of the music video featuring all four Aventura members: Henry SantosMax Agende SantosLenny Santos and Romeo.

Romeo Santos’s “Utopia” is a luscious new album of collaborations with bachata stars of various generations. But while there are standout performances from Raulin Rodriguez and Monchy & Alexandra, among others, the most anticipated song is “Inmortal”, on which Santos reunites with his bandmates in Aventura, the foursome that modernized bachata in the 2000s and hasn’t released new music in 10 years.

How Santos reunited Aventura

The king of bachata revealed that he came up with the idea to record a project featuring pioneers of bachata seven years ago, though he only began recording tracks for the project last year.

He also shared an anecdote about the experience of recording the Aventura collaboration for the album. As it turns out, Romeo recorded each part of the track with Henry, Mikey, and Lenny separately – and in secret.

He didn’t tell his band mates the song was going to be a reunion until after it was complete. “I called Lenny and Mikey, the bass player and the guitarist. I brought them to the studio separately – they’re brothers – I didn’t have them record together. And I just told them I’m preparing my next album, did not elaborate, did not say anything about the concept or anything – did not tell them that they were going to do an Aventura song”.

Romeo said he was afraid news of the collaboration would somehow leak, so he kept everything under wraps, even with his bandmates. “I just straight up did not say anything. They recorded this Aventura song not realizing what they were doing”, he added.
