Blackpink are officially the first Korean act to reach 20 million subscribers, according to YouTube. The girl Korean band has been one of huge sensations in Asia and the world, and Jennie, Rosé, Jisoo and Lisa seem to be unstoppable. The group amass over 40 million followers among all its social networks. And the grils Instagram profiles add another 40 million, at least.
In its announcement of the milestone, YouTube noted that Blackpink are currently the 45th most-popular artist on its service, with 59.6M weekly views of their music. Blackpink had 3.29 billion total plays on YouTube in the last year, and their homeland of South Korea is only their sixth most popular market over that period, with 162M views.
In fact, it’s Indonesia (629M views) where fans are truly hammering the group’s videos, some distance ahead of Thailand (392M), the Philippines (293M) and Vietnam (241M). The US, meanwhile, is Blackpink’s fifth biggest market on YouTube in the last year, with 162M views. We’ve also noted the presence of Brazil and Mexico in the top 10 for the band.
The K-Pop most-viewed song
K-pop quartet Blackpink broke numerous records with the release of their Square Up album last 2018, and they could add one more accolade to their name: the girl group broke the record for the most-viewed Korean music video within 24 hours of its release on YouTube.
A representative from the video streaming service confirmed to Billboard that the music video for their song “Ddu-Du Ddu-Du”, released on June 15, was the “biggest 24-hour debut of 2018” with over 36.2 million views in that time period. And in January 2019, it has become the most viewed music video by a K-pop group on the website.
